Animal Clothes & Other Silly Poems
Goals
To successfully launch a kickstarter campaign to back the print production of the poetry book for children's literature.
Successes
The Kickstarter campaign was accomplished at over $4,000 USD and the book was able to be produced through a self publishing print production firm located outside of New Jersey. The Kickstarter was successful and PDF books, print books, stickers, t-shirts, and bookmarks were produced for the book.
My Contributions
Head Visual Designer: Designed the type logo for the book, chose the fonts, color palettes, and much more.
Head of Production Designer: Followed up with each artist involved in the process to ensure that deliverables were received in time, with high enough resolution, and in the CMYK palette. If they were not, I would edit the imagery myself to fit the requirements. Spearheaded meetings with BookBaby to discuss their printing requirements to ensure bleed, DPI, and more were perfectly executed for their printing process.
Illustrator: Drew and utilized Adobe Illustrator for four of the pages in the book.
Social Media Assistant: Crafted branded social media posts to be implemented on Facebook, Instagram, and Kickstarter. Suggested and advertised two additional funding aspects to increase Kickstarter revenue.
The Ballad of Paperclip Jim
Goals
Develop and deliver a series of 24 unique, engaging illustrations that align with the book's narrative and target audience, ensuring completion and final approval by the publisher within 6 months, while also achieving a 95% positive feedback rate from book review websites.
Successes
The book was published within the ideal timeline as requested by the author, and sales were within the goal range of intended sales. Additionally, the book currently retains a 5-star rating on Amazon Books.
My Contributions
Illustrator: Sole illustrator for the entire book. The illustration process for this book first involved character designs, character sheets, storyboarding, and then illustration flat lays for each set of pages.
Head Visual Designer: Designed the type logo for the book, chose the fonts, color palettes, and much more.
Head Production Designer: Ensured that each illustration completed fell within the required reigns that Kindle Direct Publishing provided. This involved tests of safe space on each page to ensure that text would be easily readable, and that imagery would not fall of the page.
Tools Utilized
Adobe Illustrator: All illustrations were completed in Illustrator and are vector, able to be scaled as needed, logo design, some text design
Adobe InDesign: Text placement, book pre-press design work
Procreate: Sketches and concept art
